Bad storms hits Va Last three weeks.

As the storm continues to pull away from the coast, we can look back on Saturday's totals and see that the heaviest amounts generally fell from central Virginia through the Northern Neck, according to NBC12 meteorologist Jim Duncan.
Totals in ranged from 8-14" in these areas, including much of the northern half of metro Richmond.  Lighter amounts fell to the south, with overall totals of 5-10".
Now we move on, and high pressure will bring us some sunshine Sunday and Monday, but temperatures will stay quite cold, in part because of the deep snow pack.
Virginia is under a state of emergency as Central Virginia deals with another battle with winter weather. See the traffic links below for more on the roads and accidents.
The National Weather Service says more than a foot of snow has been reported in some parts of Virginia.
As of 3:30 p.m., the weather service has received reports of snow throughout the region, the highest amounts of about 12 inches in Hanover County in the Richmond area.
Areas along the Virginia-North Carolina border are seeing between four and 10 inches, while the Hampton Roads area has seen more than six inches. The cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton and Portsmouth, all had reports of about five inches of snow. Virginia Beach had reports of about nine inches in some places. Even the Outer Banks in North Carolina have had snow accumulations.

Miss you all in Stanley Virginia.

I am, for the most part, from Delaware and Pennsylvania  and do find Stanley Virginia to be rather limited in many areas  due to lack of people and thing to do , If you want to the closest Grocery store it’s eight miles away the same for a Gas Station,  I brought my car in Del and Paid one time car taxes and that was it, now that I live here in Virginia it’s once a year and if you don’t pay your license is suspended until you pay your “Called Personal Property” taxes!!! Then you will get your License back after paying a small fine on top of all that. WHAT A JOKE Remember all the rolling Amish farmland. You should probably try Lebanon PA, though - this area doesn't sound like a good fit it really is. There are stores I can walk to and the Grocery store is right a cross the street from my house. It’s a very up scale Area, I’ll be around all my brothers and Sisters and nieces and Nephews and Great one I can’t forget them. But I’ll mostly will miss my Dad and step Mother the most and all the help they have given to me. And all my friends in Stanley. You can email mail at berryrn188@gmail.com or ric.berry1@aol.com  and my address is as follows.

I'm a whatever year old  white male from Stanley VA, currently owning
my home and it went on the market and sold in three weeks Thank God!.
I've lived here all of less then 2 years in Stanley and
Staunton, Now I’m moving out of the area and out of state on April 3rd OMG Thank God to be rid of my old so called friend LOL and to start my life with  someone new. Places of interest would need relatively adequate, adiverseethnic population would be nice ( if you don't know about Lebanon, the town is predoaminately white and Hispanic, however, the majority of the other people live on the outskirts in the country or suburbs, within the city it is very concentrated with all kinds of people.) Low crime rates are always appreciated as well as affordable housing. More or less something that isn't too drastic of a change from Stanley more or less but something that could be considered a stepping stone to say maybe a larger city like Lebanon is where I pick to live, I already have a very nice place there it’s bigger then my old apartament in Staunton VA. LOL much cheaper in a real nice neighborhood of town on the South side. I'm so ready to go.

WHY DO PEOPLE GAIN WEIGHT ON PREDNISONE?

Prednisone is a corticosteroid medication physicians prescribe when your body is not making enough corticosteroids due to illness and inflammation. These conditions include arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, lupus and certain cancer types. While prednisone has many beneficial effects, it also is linked to causing weight gain in those who take the medication. Note that not all patients who take prednisone experience this side effect.

BODY FAT REDISTRIBUTION

Prednisone not only causes weight gain, it can result in a phenomenon known as fat redistribution. This means fat deposits collect in unusual areas, such as the back or base of your neck, according to the Johns Hopkins Vasculitis Center. These can sometimes be mistaken for lymph nodes on the neck. If you experience this weight gain type, speak to your physician. Your physician may recommend decreasing your dosage, which can reduce the redistribution effect.

SIGNIFICANCE

Weight gain with prednisone often is related to how long you have been taking the medication and how much you are taking, according to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. This is because taking prednisone can increase your appetite. As you eat more over time, you gain more weight. Also, your body retains more fluid while taking prednisone, causing you to experience water retention and swelling. If you have an inflammatory condition that may restrict movement, this can mean you are inactive for a period of time, resulting in added weight gain.

PREVENTION

You can take steps to prevent prednisone-related weight gain. Avoid foods that are high in sodium, such as fast foods, chips, prepackaged foods and canned and frozen foods because these cause you to retain water. Increased potassium intake can combat water retention. Choose foods such as baked potatoes, bananas, dates, grapefruits, milk, oranges, raisins, stewed tomatoes and tomato juice. Eating several smaller meals per day can help you feel fuller, longer. Increasing your protein intake -- foods like milk, skinless chicken, fish and soy -- also can help you feel fuller, longer.

WARNING

Taking prednisone over a long period of time can decrease your adrenal gland production of steroids. This means if you cease taking or skip a dosage of prednisone, you could experience serious side effects. If you are concerned about your weight gain related to taking prednisone, talk to your physician about your medication options and concerns. Your physician also may recommend a specific diet and exercise program tailored to helping you maintain a healthy weight.

I think you can find true love numerous times in your life. We make love this crazy complicated thing and for some reason decided there is only one true love available to ourselves. But really, love is just an emotion. True love is unconditional and simple. There's no reason why u can't have that emotion towards some one more than once in your life. Other wise people whose partner died would be outta luck. When you do fall in love make sure it goes on a two way street and not a one way, You can set yourself for a great hurt in your life. You must be able to give to each other and not only you giving and not receiving anything in return. Maybe, the second time of true love you found, maybe not that true like the first time~

I'm falling in Love with you and i melt everytime we talk.

You know when you're in love : you are able to be open with each other, and you make a commitment to that person. When that person tells you "I love you", you get butterflies and you feel special. Now if you are a guy it's different sometimes; but you know you're in love when your feelings are deep, and you see each other's eyes in the world.
I'm in love, i know, i know more than anything i love this person, you can just feel it! There's no denying it. It's built in there, somewhere, you just have to find it. Once you fall in love, it's all you can do to stay alive. I would die if i lost my better half. I can't live in a world where he doesn't exists.
You may be one person to the world, but to one person you are the world. I love you baby! With all my heart and soul.

The various perspectives of life depend upon the beholder, how they enjoy it or decry it. But as a whole, this mankind is a precious gift offered to us that can be used either way.

What are the warning signs of possible rejection?

What are the warning signs of possible rejection?

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your transplant coordinator immediately:
  • Fever over 100°F (38°C)
  • "Flu-like" symptoms: chills, aches, headache, dizziness, nausea and/or vomiting
  • Chest congestion
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • New pain or tenderness around the lung
  • Fatigue or generally feeling "lousy"

How is rejection identified?

The transplant team will be able to determine if your body is rejecting your new lung by completing daily tests of pulmonary function during your hospital stay. If the team thinks you might be experiencing any problems with your new lung, the following tests might be completed:
  • Repeated blood work including a complete blood count
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Lung biopsy and surveillance bronchoscopy — These tests are performed routinely as part of your follow-up care (at three weeks, six weeks, three months, six months, nine months, and one year after transplant surgery)

How is rejection treated?

If rejection develops, your doctor will prescribe medicine to treat rejection and prevent continued complications. In order to control the rejection, you might need to be admitted to the hospital, or you might receive care in an outpatient setting.

Will rejection treatment cause side effects?

The medicines used to treat a lung rejection episode are strong drugs. The first few doses might cause the following side effects:
  • Fever, chills
  • Headaches
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Weakness
  • Diarrhea
  • General flu-like symptoms

St. Patrick's Day!!

St. Patrick’s Day: 10 Facts You Might Not Know About The Irish Day Of Celebration

3
St. Patrick’s Day: 10 Facts You Might Not Know About The Irish Day Of Celebration

1. Despite the Irish roots of the holiday, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in Boston.
That’s right. On March 17, 1737, the city of Boston, Massachusetts chose to celebrate its heritage in a unique way. The original parade didn’t have motorized floats or huge balloons or probably even immodestly dressed women. But it did go down in the history books.
2. St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17 because it is the feast day of St. Patrick.
This one may be a little more easy to recognize. St. Patty’s Day is meant to celebrate (who else) the patron saint of Ireland. He is believed to have died on March 17, 461. As such, it is only right to celebrate the saint’s death-day with a celebration. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland. It is also a provincial holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
3. A leprechaun is hoarding one gold coin for each day it has lived.
So, let’s face it. There has been no documented, tangible proof that leprechauns exist. But when has that stopped people from believing in something? So, as the legend goes, if you find a leprechaun’s pot of gold, you will also discover how old he (or she?) is.
4. Dying the Chicago River green on St. Patrick’s Day was initially an accident.
Oops? Apparently some plumbers were using fluorescein dye to trace the source of illegal pollution dumping in the river more than 50 years ago. In response to the dye, the river turned bright green — on St. Patty’s Day. The city apparently loved the coincidence so much that they have been honoring the tradition since then. The local plumbers union still sponsors the dyeing of the Chicago River.

5. “Drowning The Shamrock” is the tradition of floating a shamrock in one’s whiskey, then drinking it.
So if you can find a shamrock and plan to drink whiskey tonight, this one’s for you! The Irish custom is exactly as it sounds. Find yourself a shamrock and float it on top of your shot of Jameson (or another whiskey, but try to make it Irish, okay?). Then, drink the whole thing down. If you keep this custom on March 17, the Irish believe you will have a prosperous year.

6. The color of St. Patrick is blue, not green.
Green didn’t become associated with St. Patrick’s Day until the 19th century. In Irish legends, the color now associated with March 17 was worn by fairies and immortals. It was also worn by people to encourage their crops to grow well.
7. The shamrock is really a symbol representing the Trinity.
While it is also associated with good luck, the shamrock was also used by St. Patrick, according to legend, to illustrate God’s presence in the natural world. The patron saint explained that each leaf represented one of the trinity — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
8. Want that four-leaf clover? Chances are you’ll find one — in 10,000 regular ones.
Unfortunately, if you want to find a real four-leaf clover to decorate your lapel for St. Patrick’s Day, you’ll have to either search through a massive clover patch or have an insane amount of luck. The chances of finding a four- (or more) leaf clover are one in 10,000.
9. 34 million people in the United States can claim Irish descent.
Their numbers include Chicago’s mayor. The numbers were taken from the 2003 Census. The current population of Ireland is 4.1 million, making the number of Americans with Irish heritage nine times the number of people who actually live in Ireland.
10. It is tradition in Ireland to wear a bunch of shamrocks on your jacket.
It’s kind of a given, but many people in the country will wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jacket. Children will often wear orange, white, and green badges, while women and girls can be seen with green ribbons in their hair.
So whether it’s a parade, finding that four-leaf clover, or drinking green beer, we hope you enjoy St. Patrick’s Day!

Do we really have true friends!!

A real friend won't always wait for you to call. I've been in one-sided friendships before in which the other person, or "friend" wouldn't make any effort at all. I decided to stop calling the person for a week or so, and learned that when left to their own devices, the person wouldn't try to make plans or anything. Thinking that I might be jumping to conclusions, I gave them another week. Still nothing and then months. I haven't seen or talked to them since, and it's because she wasn't willing to make the small amount of effort to keep up our friendship. It takes two to maintain a friendship, and a real friend will eventually call, no matter who usually calls first, just to make sure everything is okay.

You can tell if someone's a real friend or not if he or she notices when something is wrong. If you're not acting like yourself or seem unhappy, a real friend will pick up on it because he or she will be paying attention to your emotions and expressions. Someone who's just acting as your friend might not notice anything at all and act as if everything is normal because he or she doesn't really know you very well, or might not even really care whether or not you're feeling alright. A real friend can read your emotions, no matter how hard you try to conceal them, and will be genuinely concerned about you.

If someone's really your friend, he or she won't give up aiding you so easily. A real friend will try to move heaven and earth for you before throwing in the towel. This means that he or she won't limit him or herself to "conventional" methods to help you out, because conventional methods are easy, and when an easy action just doesn't cut it, you'll still need help and your friend should be there for you. Good friends won't give up when they're needed, because it's easy to pretend to be a friend and back out when things get tough; it's hard to get in the middle of a problem and work your way out.

The easiest way to tell if someone is really your friend is to attempt to have a really deep, meaningful conversation with him or her. Talk about a relationship, family matters, the future or illness, or something that you find yourself thinking about when you're alone. A real friend will actually get into the conversation because he or she knows that it means something to you, whereas a "pretend" friend will say you're acting strange and dismiss the conversation. Real friends don't mind being uncomfortable or emotional every once in a while, and this test is almost sure to weed-out the fakers.

Thank you all ((Stanley /Luray))

Thank you all ((Stanley /Luray))

I would like to say a massive thank you for all the messages, cards, presents, surprises and gifts that I received today and thank you to everyone that came to see me and making my birthday really special. A big thank you to all who came to the birthday bash at Uncle bucks in Luray and for the gifts! Had loads of fun! Even some ass hole who tried to ruin it for me my friends would not let that happen. I thank every one who was there.

My 2 Year Anniversary!!! ((Virginia) Pennsylvania)))

I received a double lung transplant at the University of Pennsylvania on February 11, 2011 what a birthday gift that was i wish to thank the donor family for giving me a second chance to have my life back, since then I've lost 47 lbs. and feeling great about myself. It has been a long and rough road with a few bumps in the road I'm down to about twenty six pills a day down from about 35 pills per day,. I think it harder to find a friend when I was ill. The minute I say I've had Transplant or I had COPD, I never hear from that person again and that's what really hurts me. As of today I'm at 97 % to 100% room air without any Oxygen and joining the gym at Pell Port the old DuPont rehab center on Pennsylvania Ave in Wilmington Delaware a few days a week to keep the weight off and build mussels back up. It was amazing to be able to breathe without exhaustion -- and it still is "When I started using oxygen, I was only ? years old I was up to almost 4 liter and could hardly able to walk short or long distances. I'd had to quit working. I didn't go out much. I went to a wedding once and ran out of the reception early because, I'd run out of oxygen and felt like I couldn't catch my breath ( I have been without Oxygen now four months and all the tanks and machines are no longer in my home.). Part of it may have been panic at the thought of not being able to breathe without the oxygen -- it was so much a part of me." "When I did my lung capacity tests for the first time after transplant, I almost cried because it was with little effort. "Everything at Penn went really well. Every department interacts with the others, which is nice. I recommend it to everyone who needs it. "I spent three months in and out at the University of Pennsylvania in ICU, Rehab Center where I had to learn to walk, dress myself feed myself and learn to breath normal.
I'm so grateful for every opportunity I been given to have a full life back, Thank you god and all my friends and most of all my family who supported me 24/7 that believed in me and all the Doctors so many to thank all of the transplant team, and all the Rehabilitation personal and Occupational team that did not give up on me. I can't say enough about the staff at the University of Pennsylvania who gave me excellent care and a normal life back. Someone ask me if i had to go Thou this again would you, My reply is you bet your sweet ass i would. Here I'm 2 year in and a little set back , I have developed kidney disease do to all the meds that i have to take the rest of my life. I thank God I'm still here . I Live back in Stanley Virginia and I just get my hunting licenses and my Father is very happy about that, so how i can spend more time with him and my Brothers, I'm still going to gold's gym in Front Royal Virginia it's real close 38 miles one way. Now i don't go to U of Penn any more, instead I'm going UVA that's real close 42 miles one way LOL. I drive over the mountain to get to UVA and it's a beautiful drive.
