Khalifa orders Dhs36.6m aid for Malaysia

ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the commitment of Dhs36.6 million ($10 million) in humanitarian aid for tens of thousands of people affected by the floods, which hit Malaysia recently.

The UAE aid will help more than 20,000 Malaysian families in Kelantan state and in Pekan, in Pahang state, where floods swept several residential areas, wreaking wide destruction to properties.

The Red Crescent Authority (RCA), which will implement the initiative, will repair more than 20,000 damaged households and provide them with basic materials procured from the Malaysian domestic markets.

The UAE's initiative will enable more than 100,000 Malaysians to return to their homes and to begin working to restore their lives to normal.
